Celebrating Her Life
Evelyn C. Washington was born on August 4, 1932 in Bay Minette, Alabama to her loving parents, Albert and Eugener Watson. She the first daughter and second child of eleven children born to this union. She was a graduate of Bay Minette High School and matriculated to Auburn University where she earned her Baccalaureate of Science degree in Nursing.
Evelyn met and married the love of her life, her “Honey”, William H. Washington, Sr. He preceded her in death. From that loving union, they were blessed with one child, a son, William H. Washington Jr. Even though she only gave birth to one child, she was a “mother” to many and touched the hearts of everyone who encountered her.
Shortly after they were married, Evelyn and her family moved to the Chicagoland area where she obtained the position of Surgical Nurse at the world renown, Cook County Hospital. After many years of service, she moved her career as a surgical nurse to the forefront of medicine, The University of Chicago Hospital, from which she retired.
She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was a devoted Catholic and spent her time spreading God's love by giving her time, talent and treasure to her church and to serving others. Evelyn was a proud member of the Saint Helena’s credit union, where she served for over 30 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed shopping, collecting limited edition Barbie dolls and elephants
Evelyn C. Washington was a beloved daughter, sister, mother and friend. She was strong, devoted, and a fiercely independent woman. She had the most beautiful smile that could light up your soul, if you were fortunate enough to be in her presence.
After 90 glorious years, 2 Timothy 4:6-8 best describes the life of our beloved: "For I am now ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith…
Evelyn leaves her legacy to her son, William Washington Jr. (Lisa); 6 grandchildren, Chardai (Michael), Syreeta (Michael), Dana (Mo), Javon; 4 great-grandchildren; her siblings – Robert, Fannie, Grace, Apostle Jim, Eleanor and Alfreda Watson; her beloved niece, Tiffany (Kerry); a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She also leaves in God’s care, her extended family, Karl and Dr. Valerie Goss, Mary and Carl James and Zola and Clifford Washington. She will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved her.
